Steve was born and raised in the Eugene/Springfield area. He joined Hershner Hunter in 1999 and provides counsel on government, land use and real estate development matters. His expertise and unique perspective are the result of serving 12 years as Lane County Commissioner, as a Bush Sr. appointee to the U.S. Public Lands Advisory Council, and as President of the Association of Oregon Counties. His decade of service as a local elected official also provides him with an understanding of political considerations that accompany local development proposals. His advice is sought by both serving and aspiring elected officials and he routinely applies his experience in and knowledge of the halls of government to assisting clients who have problems with regulating entities.
Steve attended the University of Oregon and obtained his undergraduate degree and his law degree from that institution with financial assistance from the G.I. Bill. He spent four years in the U.S. Army and three of those years in its Special Forces, earning his Green Beret in 1969 and serving on Special Forces teams in Viet Nam and Thailand.
The son of Pete Cornacchia, long-time Register-Guard outdoor columnist, Steve is an avid outdoorsman who particularly enjoys salmon fishing. He and his wife, Diana, who is a teacher and administrator in the Springfield School District, have two grown children, Makenzie and Nathan.
Steve has been active as baseball coach and director for the Thurston area of the Willamette Valley Babe Ruth Baseball League.
