University of Oregon School of Law, J.D. (1993)
University of Oregon, B.S. (1988)
After graduating from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1993, Amanda spent several years working for a locally-owned management services organization, which provided staffing, management, and financial functions for several local physician practices. While there, Amanda focused on the areas of human resources and contracting. In 1997, she joined a local law firm and focused her law practice on civil litigation in both state and federal court. When Amanda joined Hershner Hunter in 2002, she continued her litigation practice, with an emphasis on commercial litigation and construction defect matters. In 2005, Amanda left private practice and went to work in the Human Resources Department for one of Oregon’s largest employers. While there, Amanda participated in the negotiation and interpretation of union contracts, employee discipline and termination matters, the drafting and implementation of employment and other policies, and the development of management trainings on employment and other matters. She also was primarily responsible for managing claims filed with the Bureau of Labor and Industries.
Amanda returned to Hershner Hunter in 2007 and currently leads our Labor and Employment Department, providing a wide range of employment law services to business owners and managers. She trains and coaches employers and managers on a variety of human resource topics, and participates in the negotiation, interpretation and enforcement of labor union contracts. She also advises clients on the impact of health care reform under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and assists them in related planning and compliance matters. Amanda’s years of practical experience working in Human Resources coupled with her years as a litigator provide her with a unique understanding of the issues facing today’s employers, both big and small.
When not at work, Amanda spends time volunteering for both community and legal organizations. She has served on the Boards of Directors for several local non-profit organizations including Womenspace and Downtown Eugene Management, Inc., which was responsible for putting on the Eugene Celebration. She is also Legislative Affairs Chair of the Lane County Human Resources Association and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. She is a regular volunteer at Food for Lane County, spent several years volunteering as a reader for the Start Making A Reader Today (SMART) Program, and is a past member of the Junior League of Eugene. Amanda also remains active with the Lane County Bar Association and the Oregon State Bar. She is a past director of the Lane County Bar Association and a past Chair of the Employment Law Section. She has also served as a director of the Oregon State Bar Professional Liability Fund, is a past Chair of the Oregon State Bar New Lawyers Division and is a member of the Oregon State Bar Employment Law Section. Amanda also regularly volunteers at the University of Oregon School of Law as a judge for various competitions and as a guest speaker.
